“I am the Gate” - March 6
This week’s “going deeper” verses are John 10:1-10. Jesus has just healed the blind man and taught on spiritual blindness. He now begins to use a metaphor all Middle Eastern people would understand – that of a shepherd. Jesus begins this discourse by saying He was the gate to the sheep pen… Just what was Jesus saying to the crowd (and to us)?
Monday – Read John 10:1-10.
Who can enter by the gate? Who is the gate? What does that mean to me?
Tuesday – Re-read John 10:1-10.
When the sheep go out of the gate, where is the shepherd? What is he doing and why is this important to me? How should I respond?
Wednesday – Genesis 3:21-24.
Adam and Eve were barred from the gate of Eden – why? What was God’s standard for closing the gate? How does this work today?
Thursday – Genesis 7:6-16.
God Himself shut the door of the ark. Why? Does God close in and shut out people?
Friday – Exodus 12:1-13.
Where was the blood to be placed? Why? What was the result of the “bloody” door?
Saturday – Joshua 20:1-9.
God provided cities of refuge – why? What happened at the gates of these cities? Why was it important and what does it symbolize for me?
Sunday – Matthew 7:13-14; John 14:1-7.
What is the narrow gate and why do only few find it? Jesus clearly says He is the only way -how does this enable my worship today?
