Two Prayer Concerns – Christians in Islam

Events in the Middle East have focused global attention on the tensions between Muslim political leaders (most of whom are dictators) and Muslim religious leaders (most of whom are dictatorial). What has been widely ignored is the place of Christian minorities in countries like Egypt, Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan. Some of these countries have long-established Christian communities (the Egyptian Coptic church traces it “ancestry” back to the converted Ethiopian eunuch’s subsequent legacy cf. Acts 8.) There is a vibrant Christian church in Jordan that is lead by many prominent Christian professionals (who have high profile esteem in that country’s culture) others have been the result of recent “underground operations” (cf. the secretive “house church movements” in Libya & Algeria) aided by radio and internet communication technologies.

Regardless of the country-to-country situation, our brothers and sisters are facing tumultuous times. They need our prayer support.

A good but albeit somewhat dated resource (the political situation changes daily) is “Operation World.” Check out their website at http://www.operationworld.org.
