Devotional Readings
April 4th - 10th
We continue our studies in John’s gospel by looking at the reaction of Jesus’ critics to His raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11:45-57). The readings below will help prepare us for next Sunday’s message.
Monday John 11:45-47a
There are two distinct and markedly different reactions to this miracle. Why do you think that God’s actions in the world result in both belief and doubt?
Tuesday John 11:47b-53
Caiaphas’ comment is both ironic and prophetic (v. 50). What does he mean to say? How does John “use” his comment in a predictive way?
Wednesday John 11:54
What do you make of Jesus’ strategy to practice “strategic withdrawal”? What lessons can you recall to know when to engage your friends/family in spiritual conversations and when to be silent or withdraw from direct conversations?
Thursday John 11:55-57
How do the religious leader’s instructions regarding Jesus betray their fears about Jesus? Why do they want to arrest Him? What makes authentic Christianity a point of fear in the minds of those resistant to hearing about Jesus?
Friday John 10:22-42
Compare these responses to Jesus (i.e. chapters 10 & 11). What do you note that is similar and/or different?
Saturday John 9:28-34
Note the response of the religious leaders to the comments of the “man born blind”. Where am I resistant to the workings of God in the lives of others?
Sunday John 11:45-57
Review and prepare to invite others to meet Jesus during this Easter season.
