Daily Devotionals

Devotional Readings
April 11th - 17th
We continue our studies in John’s gospel by looking at the response of Mary (& Martha) to Jesus’ coming to their house. Please use the readings below to prepare for both our study and our service during this “Passion Week.”

Monday
John 12:1-3
Some estimate that this perfume would cost the equivalent of a year’s salary of the average working person. What does this act say about Mary’s sense of values?

Tuesday
John 12:4-6
What’s Judas’ reaction? Is it valid? How do we balance care for the poor with consecration of our lives to the greatness of our Lord?

Wednesday
John 12:7,8
What is the sense of Jesus’ response? What point is He making?

Thursday
John 12:9-11
Note the repetition of the crowd reaction to Jesus (cf. 11:45 & 57). Why does Jesus provoke such different responses?

Friday
John 12:12-15
Jesus comes riding into Jerusalem “on a donkey”. What is the significance of this event? What are the hopes of those shouting phrases from Psalm 118?

Saturday
John 12:16-19
What is the sense of John’s comment in v. 16? How is it possible to “see” something with physical eyes and yet not be able to “see” what it really means? How do you “see” the events of your life (and in the lives of those close to you)?

Sunday
John 12:1-19
Review and ask God to give you the responses of Mary and the crowds this coming week.
