Haiti – Trip Report #2

The city of Pignon in north central Haiti is challenged by a lack of running water, limited access to electricity, very little economic opportunity, and deplorable road conditions.
Pastor Jephthe Lucien leads the work of the Jerusalem Baptist Mission as its National Director. Since 1996, Pastor Lucien has planted 42 churches with over 4,000 members and 17 Christian schools with over 2,900 students.

The Mission’s economic development programs have directly impacted hundreds of families throughout Pignon. This ministry has improved the quality of life in Pignon for thousands of people. More importantly, it has greatly strengthened the level of Christian witness opportunities in these communities.

Daily Devotionals

May 16th - 22nd

We continue our studies in Jesus “Upper Room Discourse” by looking at the way He seeks to encourage His disciples’ hope and their holiness (John 14:1-14). Please use the readings and suggested questions as a way to prepare for our collective time of study and practice.

Monday John 14:1,2
What causes your heart to be “troubled”? How does Jesus re-direct our attention from “trouble” to “trust”?

Tuesday John 14:3,4
What promise does Jesus make that would release us from “earth-bound troubles”?

Wednesday John 14:5-7
What is the essence of Thomas’ question? How/Why does Jesus change Thomas’ question from “where?” to “who?” Why is it more important to have a “Guide” than a “map”?

Thursday John 14:8-10
Philip asks what seems to be a “natural question”. What is Jesus’ response? What claim is Jesus making about His connection to God the Father?

Friday John 14:11
This is perhaps one of Jesus’ boldest statements regarding His deity.

Saturday John 14:12-14
What are the “greater things” that Jesus is predicting? How is it possible that Jesus’ followers would “out do” Him? What does it mean to “ask…in my name”?

Sunday John 14:1-14
What is the cumulative way that these statements provide great encouragement to us?
